How I found my love for food.

By Sam Coles:

Food is something that I was not always into, I mean sure I ate food and enjoyed it, but that was more for a necessity more than anything but there was no passion behind the reason why I ate it. It wasn’t until recent years where I started to open my mind to different cultures of food from all over the world, plus it helps that I live in one of the best cities in the UK for food Bristol.

Who got my passion going for food, well I know this may sound rather silly but my father got me really passionate about food, he is an avid cook and loves to come up with new ideas and surprises me with different dinners each night of the week. These meals can range from simple to more complex and exotic dishes, I’m genuinely excited each night because I don’t know what type of food I was having that evening. What is also fun is that he always asks for my input when he is cooking, whether it is me just trying it for him to check if it is nice to making sure if it has enough salt, pepper, marinade or any other flavours that need adding, It is as if I’m shaping my own dish to my liking.

I’ve even started to experiment myself during the day by playing around with various foods when it comes to my breakfast and lunches, especially my breakfast which some of you may find a tad odd. For instance instead of having same old cereal each day I instead started to experiment with toast, yes this may sound mundane to begin with, but I found that toast is just a vessel for various foods and spreads.  For example the main thing I love to have on toast in morning which generally gets me some odd looks when I mention this is hummus, yes surprisingly hummus is a great way to start the day with its high fibre and protein, plus it’s just really nice. I found breakfast doesn’t have to be boring it can be just as exciting as an evening meal.

Food is something that is not only for survival, but it is an art which if done right can make your taste buds dance, with beautiful tastes that can send you into a trance and transport you to another world which can cause pure bliss. It’s also a gateway to other cultures because what is the easiest way to get along with people? Food! You can’t go wrong sharing a vat of curry with friends or strangers, that is another aspect of food I love is the social aspect, it’s a great way to share stories with each other with a nice dish, coupled with a nice bottle of wine or drink of your choice.

That was a brief post about how I fell in love with food, why do you love food? Let me know in the comments or tweet at @bristolfood.

Spin off to my blog Bristolian Gamer but with food

By Sam Coles:

I have a huge passion about food at the moment as my brother, who is a chef is constantly cooking up exquisite pieces of food as well as my father who loves to cook keeps surprising me each weekend with new and interesting dishes.

I want this to be a spin off to my current blog Bristolian Gamer, but instead of games it’s obviously going to be about food. I’m not sure if this is going to be a sure fire thing as I’m just experimenting and maybe it will work. I’m going to test the waters and hopefully it will work.
If you want to give me advice about food blogging you can find me on Twitter @samcoles2 or contact me via email coles_1993@hotmail.com.
